Description
The ChemSafe Heavy Metals Test 5-in-1 is a colorimetric test for the initial detection of cadmium, mercury, lead, copper and cobalt in a sample. The test shows presence, but it does not tell you the amount or the exact concentration of the metal. The result is indicative and is not a laboratory confirmation of what the sample contains.
The Heavy Metals Test 5-in-1 contains a two-part colorimetric reagent, a micropipette, a tube for the reaction and an instruction leaflet.
The test can be used on, among others:
- water and other liquid samples,
- powders
- food, once the sample has been prepared,
- herbs and supplements,
- biological samples, saliva and first morning urine
- soils and sediments
- paints
Solid samples need to be prepared before testing, as described in the instructions.
How to use the heavy metals test?
1. Prepare the reagent
Tip the contents of the small tube of dry reagent into the larger tube with the liquid reagent. Close the tube and shake it for about 10 seconds.
2. Add the sample
Add 4 ml of a liquid sample, or of the solution you prepared from a solid sample and water.
With solid samples, remove any undissolved particles before you add the solution to the reagent.
Close the tube and shake it for about 5 seconds.
3. Watch the reaction
Watch the colour change for 2 minutes.
It helps to photograph the colour right after the reaction starts and again while it develops.
4. Compare the result
Compare the colour you get with the scale in the instructions.
Do not interpret colour changes that appear after 2 minutes, unless the instructions say otherwise.
